VENUS RADIO THEATER

The Venus Radio Theater is a collection of seventeen stories from eight different writers representing a diverse array of voices. I created VRT as a platform for writers to explore bold and new ideas as audio plays. My hope is if listener listens to the entire series stories they will come out with a wider appreciation of the tapestry of cultures that make our world. VRT’s Anthology Broadcasts now streams exclusively on Apollo +, however, you can listen to all the stories on this website. In addition, each page features a spotlight on the writers and actors that help bring this all to life. Please take the time to explore their websites and the wonderful things they are also working on.

My Role

Every story you will listen to in the series was directed, edited, and produce by me. I also wrote the three part story, “Calico M.D.” In addition, I worked with every writer in adapting their stories for an audio medium.

DIRECTOR STATEMENT OF VRT

In every nook and cranny of this grand experiment of democracy that we call a theater, I am reminded that this began as a simple dream shared between two friends. A dream where making stories wasn’t about fame, money, or even talent, it was about giving artists their dignity back and allowing the making of stories to be more than just cynical exercises in marketing. As the Artistic Director and Founder of Venus Radio Theater, I am responsible for assembling the talent, producing/directing/editing the stories, and shaping the overall vision of the theater and Andy is responsible for the sound recording/design of each episode. While I am a quarrelsome radical who wants to find a higher truth in a dying capitalist world, Andy is the quiet giant who tinkers at his workstation to bring to life the many diverse pieces brought to him. Andy and I love the work and we love what we do, but what brings us joy is the connections we make and foster. 

Every artist we work with becomes part of our tribe and mission to work as hard as possible to get our collective talent out to the world. Our voices deserve to be heard! Over a hundred humans, from all walks of life, have lent (for a respectable fee!) the talents that they’ve cultivated their entire lives to help produce an uppity, ambitious radio theater that stands with its slingshot pointed up at the Goliath known as Hollywood. We only stand a chance because of our shared belief that there’s an audience out there that wants something more and doesn’t care what it’s about as long as it is pushing boundaries, representing diverse voices/views, and exploring higher truths!

While this dream started out between two friends, it has grown into something far bigger, and it is no longer just our dream, but a dream shared by a community of artists and friends. A community we want to continue growing to include you, the audience. Andy and I invite you to join in on this wonderful delirious dream as we introduce you to a whole spectrum of stories from the zany to the tragic!
